Mossman Gorge Centre
Our experienced Aboriginal guide from Adventure North Australia will pick you up from your Port Douglas accommodation and take a short drive to the Mossman Gorge Centre. Experience a traditional Aboriginal smoking ceremony and visit the gallery and store before making our way into the rainforest of the gorge itself. Your Aboriginal guide will take on you a walk across paths and bridges in the ancient rainforest where you will learn secrets of the culture and history of the Kuku Yalanji people and their relationship with their rainforest home.
Return to the Centre for a delicious lunch in the Mayi Café, highlighting delicious local flavours.

Traditional Aboriginal Fishing-
A short drive from Mossman Gorge is Cooya Beach where you will embark on a 2 hour coast and cultural walk with a Kubirri Warra clan member. Cooya (Kuyu Kuyu) Beach is the traditional fishing grounds of the Kuku Yalanji people; learn traditional fishing and gathering techniques like catching crab as your guide takes you through the three diverse eco-systems here: beach, mangrove and coastal reef. Your Kubirri Warra guide will share their extensive knowledge of this special area and how they gather food still using their ancestor’s teachings.
Aboriginal Art & Culture-
Drive via Shannonvale to learn about the ancient Aboriginal ‘highways’ that run through the areas, used by the ancestors to connect different areas. Arrive at Janbal Art Gallery for a 1.5 hour art class with Aboriginal artist Binna Swindley. Learn different Aboriginal painting techniques and how stories are told through painting in their culture – you will also have the opportunity to paint your own canvas during the class to take home as a personal souvenir.
Be transferred back to your Port Douglas accommodation after a wonderful day of cultural discovery.
This tour is operated by Adventure North Australia. This tour may operate in reverse due to tide times at Cooya Beach.
